my story part 3

I got up and walked and walked
I arrived on the first day, exhausted as usual, along with a number of other CFS / ME sufferers. My life changed that first afternoon. I went home and did my homework, and was able to walk up a hill for the first time in 6 years. It felt fantastic, although I was a little worried about what this might cost me the next day. In fact, I woke up a new man; I had refreshed sleep and woke up at 6 am with energy and wanting to run. I got up and walked and walked, for some reason singing Tina Turner’s “Simply the Best”! A lead weight had been lifted from me; I felt alive & energetic. The subsequent days got better and better and I’ve never looked back since. I never used my electric scooter again and my carer was given a month’s notice.

Lightning Process trainer
I was so impressed with the process that I decided I would make one other person better from this ghastly illness. I have undertaken a full year course to qualify as a Lightning Process trainer, and have also studied NLP, and Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).

We can take control and get second chances in life
It is July 2007 and I’m excited again. I have shrugged off ME and now I am just ‘me’ again. I’m not bitter about the illness because I was very fortunate to find another side to myself and have time with myself. It has made me realise that we can take control and get second chances in life. And I’m very conscious that I’m very lucky, or is it that we make our own luck? In September 2007 I brought the Phil Parker Lightning Process to Dorset

Wellness centre
I decided to call my company Withinspiration and plan to start a wellness centre either here in Bournemouth or in the surrounding area in the next 5 years.

May 2008, I qualified as an Advanced Lightning Process Practitioner, one of only twenty Advanced Practitioners. I'm really enjoying life now, and being able to help so many others recover gives me a great sense of fulfillment.

April 2009, I furthered my NLP practitioner training and experience and qualified as a Master NLP Practitioner

Dec 2010, Update My health has never been better, and I'm fitter now than I've ever been. I've completed the Bournemouth 10k fun run for the second time in two years, I play tennis every week, and I recently cycled round the Isle of Wight( Over 70 miles with plenty of hills). My life is so different now, since doing the Lightning Process and throwing away my scooter.

my story part 2

Meditation
I initially committed myself to some voluntary work with Disability Wessex in 2004, helping as an advisor. After a while I no longer had the energy to continue with this. Every six months I would have a medical review, and I was clearly deteriorating each time, despite increasing my meditation from 2 to 4 times a day.

Expert Patient Program
My turnaround started in May 2005. The Director of Disability Wessex told me of a great free 6-week course called the Expert Patient Program (EPP). I was inspired by the course and those running it. The focus was on people with a long-term condition helping each other. This course is still free and I would highly recommend it for sufferers (and it has now been extended to carers). This course inspired me to not accept my status as a housebound victim. Previously, I had even given up going to my local shops a mere 100 meters away because I found it too exhausting.

Training
EPP asked me to become a tutor, and I underwent the training. At the same time, I was told about funding available to those in need of a carer. I realised that if I got this help, I could take charge of my life again and it would free up energy to become a tutor. In summer 2005, I got a personal assistant for 12 hours per week.

Electric scooter
In September 2005, I treated myself to an electric scooter. It was as instant success. Previously, I would go to the beach and sit on a bench while Marie walked on her own, but now we could do little trips together. I described it as watching a film rather than looking at the poster outside the cinema.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming
I had, some time before, come across Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and began to investigate how it might be applied to my situation. I began an Adult Education course in September 2005 and was blown away with the techniques and was also inspired by the content and the tutor.

Jeremy Vine
In February 2006, while listening to Radio 2’s Jeremy Vine show, I heard a feature on the Phil Parker ‘Lightning Process’. I had looked into it a few years before but this was a person live on the radio talking about how great it was. Radio 2 had a follow-up in April, which was also very positive. I later tracked down people before and after they had taken part and I was determined to give it a go. We decided to make our holiday out of going on the Phil Parker Lightning Process training program (so called because it is so quick) about 12 hours over a three-day period

my story part 1

My name is Alastair Gibson, and in June 1999. Honeymooning with my wife, Marie, on the idyllic island paradise of Mauritius… A perfect location for a perfect holiday… but, after the first week, I started to feel increasingly unwell. I was diagnosed as having gastroenteritis, which quickly developed into hepatitis. I knew things were serious when it took 10 days to recover sufficiently to fly home. However, I was reassured by the doctor’s instruction to …”take it easy & you will be better by Christmas!”
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

On St Patrick’s Day, 17th March 2000, I was diagnosed by Dr William Weir at the Royal Free Hospital, as having Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), also known as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (or more commonly ME). The main symptoms were fatigue, muscle pain, brain fog and feeling overwhelmed. Strangely, I was relieved, believing that surely in today’s advanced medical times what can be named can be cured. Why not this?

Transcendental Meditation

I was to learn, all too soon, that there is no known cure for CFS and there is little understanding of the disease, either in the medical profession or the wider public. Dr Weir had two main therapies, rest and Transcendental Meditation (which I hold in very high regard and still practice today). I was extremely fortunate that my local GP was forward-thinking enough to try both traditional and alternative therapies (including acupuncture and Vitamin B12 injections) and in providing funds for me to attend two residential courses.

Alternative medicine

From the very beginning I cast about seeking potential cures and therapies, in both traditional and alternative medicine. In addition to being a genuine search for help, I was also very consciously trying to avoid an ‘invalid mentality
